Hi, I’m Imani!

I'm a film programmer, as well as a writer and producer.

Imani Davis film programmer, scholar, producer, writer, and creative entrepreneur. Currently she is a film programmer at the American Cinematheque, a 501c3 nonprofit boasting over 1,600 film screenings a year. Imani has worked to put on events with A-list filmmakers and talent such as Sofia Coppola, Spike Lee, Timothee Chalamet, Sean Baker, Jordan Peele, Daniels (Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert), Damien Chazelle, Christopher Nolan, and many more. Imani is also the founder and lead programmer of the American Cinematheque's newest short film festival called PROOF, which is the only festival completely dedicated to proof-of-concept short films.

My Creative Work

As a writer and producer, I'm very focused on propulsive, elevated yet grounded and character-driven genre pieces, featuring out-of-the-box women protagonists. Think "Ex Machina", "Interstellar", or "Mr. Robot"... but with women! The themes are usually revolving around capitalism and how it affects our day to day, but I touch on other things that I have internal crises about too. Here are some of the film projects I'm currently working on. Happy to talk more about them :)

Work with Me

Your favorite filmmaker's favorite film programmer is here to help <3

Making films is hard! Figuring out what to do after you make one can be even harder!!! I spend a lot of my time watching films, planning festivals and screening series, talking with filmmakers, and thinking way A LOT about the independent film ecosystem. I love rabbit holes, so I've accumulated a lot of thoughts, spreadsheets, strategies, and opinions that get to the heart of the questions I'm asked a lot. So... here they are!

Let's chat!

Sometimes you just need someone to bounce ideas off of. let's hop on a call and talk it through. office hours are casual and tailored to whatever's on your mind.

Let's watch your stuff!

Finished a cut? Almost finished? Not sure what to do next? I can watch your film and share thoughtful, actionable feedback from the perspective of a film programmer with a background in filmmaking.

Let's make a plan!

Throughout all the notes I've collected, I'm beginning to build templates, planners, and strategy resources to help filmmakers navigate film festivals, stay organized, and make smarter decisions without reinventing the wheel every time.
